The tale behind the pumpkin's association with Halloween traces back to an Irish myth about a man named Stingy Jack. According to popular legend, Jack was a cunning and deceptive soul who managed to outwit the Devil himself on multiple occasions. When Jack finally passed away, neither Heaven nor Hell wanted his soul. The Devil, frustrated by Jack’s trickery, sent him off into the night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack placed the coal inside a hollowed-out turnip and roamed the Earth, becoming known as ‘Jack of the Lantern’, which eventually morphed into “Jack O'Lantern”. And this is how the tradition started of carving a pumpkin and placing them outside their home.
