4 Pretty Handmade Valentine Gifts Mom Will Love (1)

Need some inspiration for the perfect Valentine gift to give to Mom? Handmade gifts are an extra special way to show Mom you care, but instead of going the macaroni necklace route this Valentine’s Day, create one of these pretty plant crafts!

Mom Will Love These Handmade Valentine Gifts, and Kids Will Love Making Them!

These kid-friendly handmade Valentines are fun to make, and the results are so lovely. With just some simple craft supplies and some plants and materials from our garden center, you can create a custom-designed gift that Mom will truly appreciate.

A Painted Pot of Hoya Hearts

Hoya kerrii, also known as a heart hoya , are like living green succulent Valentines! They make the perfect plant gift for this lovey-dovey holiday, with their heart-shaped leaves that grow on long vines. They start as one single heart and will begin to sprout their vines with some good sunlight, water, and care. So, you can buy a tiny heart hoya for a cute mini planter gift, or a larger, mature vine for a bigger pot.

Pick up a ceramic pot and some acrylic paints to design a pretty planter for Mom. Once the paint has dried, fill it with succulent potting mix—it’s lighter and chunkier than typical potting soil. Plant your heart hoya, give it some water, and voila! You’ve got a sweet handmade gift Mom will cherish for years.

Seed Paper Valentines

Handmade seed paper Valentines are an adorable and eco-friendly gift to really spread the love! Once you have the necessary supplies to make recycled paper, you can make it again and again to give as gifts for holidays and birthdays. All you need is:

  • 10–12 sheets of plain paper that don’t have any gloss or plastic coating
  • Red food coloring
  • Water
  • Wildflower seeds
  • A fine mesh screen
  • A blender

Rip up your paper and toss it in the blender with two cups of warm water and a few drops of red food coloring. Let it sit in the blender for one hour before turning it on to blend. Stir in the wildflower seeds, then spread the mixture across your mesh screen. Place the screen over your sink so the drippings will go down the drain. Once your handmade paper has dried, gently remove it and then cut it up into little hearts. Mom can plant the seed Valentines into some flower pots in the spring, and they’ll grow into a gorgeous mini garden!

Ivy Heart Trellis

Ivy plants are loved for their long trailing vines—while you can let them simply hang down from their pot, you can also train them to grow up a trellis. For a simple, yet stunning gift, you can easily create a heart-shaped trellis with wire from a craft or hardware shop. Just bend it into a heart shape and leave several inches of wire at the bottom to act as a stake so you can stick it into the soil. Twist the ivy vines all around the wire heart, and this gorgeous DIY gift is ready to give to Mom!

Valentine Succulent Terrarium

A glass terrarium full of sand, pebbles, and succulents makes a wonderful handmade gift, but you can give it some fabulous Valentine’s Day flair by using pink-tinted sand and rose quartz crystals. Fill the terrarium with a layer of sand, plant your chosen succulents or air plants, and then arrange your crystals around the plants.

You can purchase colored sand from a craft shop or make your own! It’s easy—just moisten some sand with water, add food coloring, and then spread it out on top of a cookie sheet lined with an old cloth you don’t mind staining. Once it’s dry, you can place it in your terrarium.
