POSITION SUMMARY:
As an intern within the Signals department, the individual will be responsible for assisting in the management and oversight of construction, maintenance, and inspection of the C&S infrastructure. This position will provide some technical, logistical, and administrative support to the IMCS C&S team. This position has a combination of office and field environment. The individual will work under close supervision of Signals division management and supervision performing inspections of C&S assets, and planning for infrastructure upgrades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collect, consolidate, and organize standard plans/ blueprints.
  • Assist with monitoring status reporting, documentation, controls, and other processes to ensure FRA compliance.
  • Assist with the procurement of all materials and services, ensuring proper delivery, storage, and installation of materials or performance of any contracted services.
  • Assist with supporting and promoting a safe work environment while complying with all of Amtrak’s safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Receive instructions on and become familiar with C&S safety standards, procedures, and operating practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in (Electrical Engineering).
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophom*ore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Specific desire or interest to work in the railroad industry.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply experience in electrical or electronics engineering related to C&S railroad infrastructure.
  • Relevant work experience
  • Must have the ability to coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office (word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project) sufficient to prepare effective business analyses, and presentations.
  • Strong safety focus

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour – $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
