POSITION SUMMARY:
As an Intern within the Infrastructure Maintenance & Construction Services, the individual will be responsible for assisting in the management and oversight of maintenance, inspection, construction, and repair of the Electrified System. Assisting with schedules, production tracking, job planning, material ordering and receiving, project prints and diagrams, and developing work plans and strategies safely and productively within Maryland, Delaware, and Washington DC. This position has a combination of office and field environment. The individual will work under close supervision of Division managers and in collaboration with other levels of supervision. Accepted candidates for the position will have the opportunity to apply their skills in both the office and field, and to gain firsthand work experience and knowledge in the various aspects of IMCS, focusing on the workings of the Electric Traction system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist division managers with project oversight, and work planning.
  • Review Prints and schematics related to department work.
  • Material tracking/ordering based on project prints.
  • Assist with plan develop for emergency repairs.
  • Assist in providing technical, logistical, and administrative support to ensure the successful completion of assigned project tasks within scope, schedule, and budget. Receive instruction on and become familiar with Electric Traction safety standards, work procedures, and operating practices.
  • Other specific c work assignments may be determined as necessary

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in Civil / Mechanical / Electrical engineering or Construction Management.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophom*ore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Relevant work experience (e.g., internships, summer positions, school jobs)
  • Must have the ability to coordinate efforts with other technical disciplines
  • Strong Safety Focus
  • Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, )
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour – $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
