Friday, February 9, 2024 – Former Governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan, has announced his candidacy for the United States Senate, providing Republicans with a strong contender in their efforts to secure a Senate seat in a traditionally Democratic state. Hogan, known for his moderate record and willingness to criticize former President Donald Trump, emphasized his commitment to bipartisan cooperation and his determination to address the dysfunction in Washington.

While initially hesitant to enter the race, Hogan's decision potentially alters the dynamics of the Senate battle, with Democrats holding a slim majority and facing challenges in both defending incumbents and winning open seats. Despite Maryland's strong Democratic leanings, Hogan's popularity and bipartisan appeal could make him a formidable candidate.

During his tenure as governor, he faced several challenges, riots in Baltimore, an unprecedented pandemic, and a cancer diagnosis.

Monday, February 12, 2024 – In a thrilling Super Bowl showdown, the Kansas City Chiefs clinched their third title in five years with a dramatic 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes showcased his legendary status, leading his team to triumph despite a challenging season and relying on a solid defense.

The game was marked by tense defensive battles, highlighted by George Karlaftis' pivotal fumble recovery early on. Despite Mahomes' initial struggles with trust in his receivers, he rallied his team with key plays, including a touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The 49ers fought fiercely, with Brock Purdy delivering crucial throws and Jake Moody breaking a Super Bowl record with a 55-yard field goal. Ultimately, Moody's overtime field goal wasn't enough to secure victory, as Mahomes orchestrated a game-tying drive before the Chiefs sealed the win with a field goal of their own.

Tuesday, February 13, 2024 – The House of Representatives narrowly voted to impeach the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, which makes him the first Cabinet secretary to be impeached in nearly 150 years. The vote ended 214 to 213, with three Republicans voting against the measure.

The impeachment, which was instigated by Republican dissatisfaction over immigration policies, marks a significant escalation in partisan tensions. Despite Mayorkas' defense of his record and calls for bipartisan solutions, House Republicans proceeded with the impeachment effort, though it's unlikely to result in conviction in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

The GOP's handling of the impeachment, initiated through the Homeland Security Committee rather than the House Judiciary Committee, has drawn criticism from Democrats, who view it as a political ploy. Department of Homeland Security said they will alongside Secretary Mayorkas, continue to keep Americans safe.
