12-Team PPR Mock Draft (Late Pick)
Today, we will walk you through a PPR mock draft where you draft as the final pick on the turn. Results can be found here. This league is 1-QB, so you’ll see a different strategy implemented than your typical late-round quarterback ideals. Let’s get into the drafts and start with our first pick at 1.12.
Pick 1.12 – Jonathan Taylor (RB – IND)
We are going old school to start our draft and hammering running backs. We had a chance at Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs but decided on Jonathan Taylor instead. Why? Both teams have strong offensive capabilities and great offensive coordinators are leading the way. However, the run-pass option (RPO) offense led by Taylor and Anthony Richardson was enough to lean toward the Colts’ running back, as this will have defensive coordinators throwing fits trying to stop this offense.
From Weeks 7 to 18, Taylor handled over 21 carries and produced 99.4 yards per game. If I have ever seen one, he is a workhorse back, and we lucked into drafting him at the end of the first round.
Pick 2.01 – Saquon Barkley (RB – PHI)
Speaking of a workhorse back on a great offense, let’s discuss Saquon Barkley. Barkley could produce MVP-level production in this offense. The biggest issue is Jalen Hurts and the rush push, but you don’t pay a running back decent money not to utilize him. Barkley will also take pressure off Jalen Hurts and allow him to unburden his shoulders with this offense.
The Eagles also brought in Kellen Moore as offensive coordinator, who utilized his pass-catching running back in Los Angeles and Dallas; we should see more of the same here in Philadelphia. Barkley showed his explosive abilities last year with the 17th-highest explosive run rate behind this Eagles offensive line — the sky is the limit.
Pick – 3.12 Travis Kelce (TE – KC)
Travis Kelce was not his dominant self in 2023 but can still provide positional value now that he drops into the end of the third round. Kelce had a rough regular season, but his postseason was spectacular as he produced 32 receptions, 355 yards and three touchdowns in four games. With the signing of Marquise Brown, the defense will have to focus less on Travis Kelce, allowing Patrick Mahomes to have more opportunities with his favorite weapon.
Pick – 4.01 Patrick Mahomes (QB – KC)
Speaking of Patrick Mahomes, we complete a Kansas City Chiefs stack here. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league. Depending on Rashee Rice‘s legal issues, this may be the best overall core around him in 2024. Even if Patrick Mahomes lined up with three lawn chairs at the wide receiver position, I would still trust in his MVP-level production showing up in fantasy football.
Pick – 5.12 Zay Flowers (WR – BAL)
I’m a huge fan of loading up on No. 1 WRs for their respective teams. That is why we drafted Zay Flowers. Flowers led the Ravens in air yards/target share while producing 1,000 receiving yards and six touchdowns. The sophom*ore breakout season is in full effect for Flowers and he can overtake Mark Andrews as Lamar Jackson‘s top option in Baltimore.
Pick 6.01 – George Pickens (WR – PIT)
With Diontae Johnson in a new location, George Pickens finally has the chance to spread his wings as a WR1. His talent at contested catches is well known. His most significant issue is who is under center. Whether it’s Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, Pickens will be the first option in the passing game for Pittsburgh in 2024.
Pick – 7.12 Diontae Johnson (WR – CAR)
New town, same old Diontae Johnson. Johnson is a PPR machine and the Carolina Panthers desperately need someone who can separate from defenders and keep the chains moving. He is Carolina’s first, second and maybe even third option on every passing play. Johnson should receive hyper-focused target opportunities; you need that on your fantasy team.
Pick – 8.01 DeAndre Hopkins (WR – TEN)
DeAndre Hopkins at this age is a little risky. However, Will Levis can throw a deep ball with the best of them. We also have Calvin Ridley pulling some coverage off of Hopkins. This selection has a high risk but high reward, but we can always utilize him in great matchups.
Pick – 9.12 Zack Moss (RB – CIN)
Whenever you are in the ninth round and have a chance to draft a lead back for a potent offense, you do it. Chase Brown does put a wrench in this plan, but the Bengals still went out and brought Zack Moss in. Maybe last year was the exception in Moss’ career, but we will take the chance and bolster our RB bench depth.
Pick 10.01 – Gus Edwards (RB – LAC)
Like the ninth round, if we can grab the lead back of an offense this late in the draft, we do it. Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins decided to turn the Chargers into Baltimore West. However, Edwards isn’t coming off back-to-back with significant injuries, so let’s build our running back depth and move on.
Pick 11.12 – Jahan Dotson (WR – WAS)
Will the real Jahan Dotson please stand up? Hopefully, Washington’s new rookie quarterback (whoever they draft) will return the Jahan Dotson we saw in his rookie season. With Curtis Samuel out of the picture, the Commanders could hyper-focus on Dotson and Terry McLaurin in 2024.
Pick 12.01 – Gabe Davis (WR – JAC)
Yes, we are back on the Gabe Davis train. He will try to replace the Calvin Ridley role in Jacksonville. We don’t know if he can, but his body type allows him to be the explosive X receiver in the offense. In the 12th round, we risk it for the biscuit and hope Davis will finally repeat the production he showed in the playoffs years ago.
Pick 13.12 – Quentin Johnston (WR – LAC)
There is no more Keenan Allen in Los Angeles; we also have no more Mike Williams, Gerald Everett and Austin Ekeler. If Quentin Johnston will live up to his first-round draft capital, he has to do it this year. In the 13th round, finding an offense’s WR1 is rare. Jump on it and run.
Pick 14.01 – Rico Dowdle (RB – DAL)
The Dallas Cowboys running back room is a mess, but at the moment, Rico Dowdle is the lead back in the Lone Star state. It’s also the 14th round. Don’t overthink this; aim for upside, let the draft end and enjoy a drink with your friends.
