Co-founded in 2013 in Athens, Greece, by CEO Alex Chatzieleftheriou after he spent five years living out of hotels in 12 different cities as a business consultant, he wanted to fix a major issue that he personally experienced in his line of work.

However, if you bring a pet, many Airbnb owners impose an additional fee on top of the regular cleaning costs. Because animals produce dander, hair, and the occasional accident, hosts need to ensure that the property is ready for the next guest, who could potentially have allergies.

The platform has also brought back a pet-friendly homes filter, so travelers can more easily see which listings will accommodate four-legged guests. The company previously retired the filter in 2021. There have been more than 6 million pet stays in Airbnbs over the past year, according to the company.
