About the Test - University <br>Testing Center (2024)

There are three (3) practice tests: algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus. Students have an unlimited number of attempts for the practice tests. Students are only required to earn 35% or higher on the practice algebra test in order to proceed with taking the actual algebra test. Students who score 350 or higher on the algebra test will have the opportunity to advance to the trigonometry and precalculus tests.

Students who do not earn a 35% or higher on the practice algebra test will begin their math course sequence with MAT 1033-Intermediate Algebra unless they have earned college-level credit for College Algebra.

Testing Accommodations

The office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works in collaboration with the University Testing Center (UTC) to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made for students with documented disabilities. Students seeking special accommodations for the UCF Math Placement Test (MPT) must first have approval from the SAS office.

For detailed information and steps for requesting accommodations, please visit the SAS website: https://sas.sdes.ucf.edu/

Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting

1. I don’t see the Math Placement Test on my Webcourses dashboard.

If you do not see the Math Placement Test on your Webcourses dashboard or Home Page, please click on the “Courses” tab to see all course enrollment. If the MPT does not appear under your course list, please complete the math placement contact form for further assistance.

2. What aids am I allowed to use when I take the test?

Students can have scrap paper, pencil, and a basic scientific calculator (not a graphing calculator). The calculator used in most of the math courses at UCF is the TI-30XA calculator which retails for under $15.00. The placement test is a closed-note, closed-book test which consists of a section of algebra questions, a section of trigonometry questions, and a section of precalculus questions.

Any attempt to use any unapproved aids on the actual placement test such as (graphing calculator, math solving applications) is considered academic misconduct and will be reported. As a student at UCF, you are expected to uphold the UCF Creed and demonstrate the highest standard of academic and personal integrity. Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to, cheating, dishonest conduct, obtaining an unfair advantage and collusion. To avoid being placed in a math course that may not accurately reflect your skills and abilities, you should do their best and take the test seriously as the results will determine their math course sequence.

You can review information about UCF’s Golden Rule, integrity, ethics, and academic honesty on the UCF Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities website

3. What options are available if I cannot earn the 35% on the practice algebra test?

All students must take and earn a 35% or higher on the practice algebra test in order to be eligible to proceed with taking the actual algebra test. Students have unlimited attempts with the practice algebra test. Students who cannot earn a 35% or higher on the practice algebra test will begin their math course sequence with MAT 1033-Intermediate Algebra unless they have earned college-level credit for College Algebra.

4. Can I retake the test if there is a technical problem or if I don’t do well on the test?

If you accessed the placement test and exited out either intentionally or unintentionally and received a score, re-entry into that session will not be allowed. Once a test has been submitted, students who meet certain criteria will have the option to retake the MPT for a cost. To verify if you are eligible to retake the MPT, please complete the math placement contact form.

5. Can I take the test more than once?

Students who meet certain criteria will have the option to retake the MPT for a cost. Additional retesting beyond the second attempt will not be provided under any circ*mstances. For more information and to verify if you are eligible to retake the MPT, please complete the math placement contact form.

6. Is the Math Placement Test score transferable to another institution?

No, the UCF Math Placement Test score is intended for academic advising and course placement while at the University of Central Florida.

7. I cannot continue to the test because a page is locked or I am missing a pre-requisite.

If you cannot continue past the Technical Support page, make sure you are logged into webcourses:
