Shaved snow comes to town

Two brothers-in-law opened the first Treasure Coast location of a national chain for desserts, specifically shaved snow. It's created by combining the fine texture of Hawaiian ice with the creaminess of Taiwanese ice, all with the feel of an American snow cone. Read the full story.

Beach bar, restaurant moves

Island Beach Bar & Restaurant moved to 110 S. Ocean Drive in Fort Pierce, near Jetty Park, after three years in Ocean Village, a South Hutchinson Island gated community. It closed May 19 and reopened May 24 where Rhumfish, Rhumcay andThe Inlet Grill used to be. It's separate from the Sunrise Sands Beach Resort.

Car wash adds ice cream parlor

Glenn’s Ice Cream Parlor opened with a drive-thru at 1761 N.W. Federal Highway, Stuart, behind the RaceTrac gas station. It’s splitting the building 50-50 with the car wash. The new shop is open noon to 8 p.m. daily and features 44 flavors, cones, cups, floats, shakes, banana splits and sundaes.

Pizzeria's first Florida location

Tracee and Jeff Lago opened the first Cam’s Pizzeria in Florida at 2987 S.W. Port St. Lucie Blvd., behind Duffy’s, on Jan. 2 with an April 16 grand opening celebration. It's open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. It's the location of the former Fratelli's Pizzeria. Read the full story.

Try taste of Jamaican patties

R&S Pattiess opened in April in the strip plaza at 1909 S.W. South Macedo Blvd, Port St. Lucie. It sells freshly baked Jamaican patties daily and carries jerk chicken, curry chicken, spicy beef, mild beef, vegetables and coco bread. It’s open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Goodbye grouper Reubens

The Red Onion Eatery's third and final restaurant closed May 15. It originally opened in 2003 at a different location near the boardwalk on the beach. A second location opened in 2006 near what is now Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital. It was famous for its crunchy grouper Reuben sandwich.

Restaurant becomes food truck

Chef Kelly Dakis closed Chef Kelly’s Restaurant & Market in Port St. Lucie on May 17 to open a food truck. Her menu features vegan and non-vegan options, juices, kombuchas, fresh produce, baked goods and mushrooms.

Scratch kitchen closes

Grit Scratch Kitchen in Vero Beach closed in March after over three years in business because the owners had to move to take care of family members. A new bagel shop has opened in that location. Read the full story.

Brewery opens restaurant

Hot dog joint changes

The former Frank N' Stein in Stuart will be renovated and reopened under a new name because the owner is expanding the menu. He plans to add smash burgers and mahi sandwiches. Read the full story.

What will replace Donut Circus?

A new owner from West Palm Beach bought the former Donut Circus in Fort Pierce to open a fast-food restaurant serving fried chicken and seafood. The doughnut shop that opened in 1976 closed in April. Read the full story.

Cidery owner takes over

The owner of the Treasure Coast's first cidery is opening a new restaurant that upgrades the food at the former bar and grill. It will have a steak night and feature a seafood boil. Entertainment includes bingo, trivia and karaoke in the bar. Read the full story.

Coffee shop adds rolled ice cream

Eileen Villafane took over Barista Creamery Coffee & Tea Company in Palm City on March 1 and reopened under same name but added rolled ice cream, scooped ice cream, coffee and tea. “Martin County doesn’t have the rolled ice cream,” she said, “so I want to be different.” It’s located in the Access 365 Urgent Care plaza at 2285 S.W.
