Environmental Benefits:
Segregation reduced the risk of groundwater contamination, reduced the quantity of air emissions and minimized risk of discharging contaminants from spills and leaks into the clean stormwater system. Generation of wastewater sludges was reduced to a level that can currently be recycled through the Delayed Coking Unit (DCU) rather than disposed of offsite. In addition, significant increases in quantity and variety of wildlife are a positive indicator of overall environmental improvement resulting directly from the installation of these facilities.
